A coupled polygonal DEM-LBM technique based on an immersed boundary method and energy-conserving contact algorithm

This work presents a framework of coupling polygonal discrete elements and the lattice Boltzmann method using direct forcing immersed boundary scheme. In this technique, an energy-conserving contact algorithm is utilized to handle interactions between convex concave particles. The surface polygon represented by points which includes vertices particles and/or interpolated from vertices. fluid-particle obtained through imaginary fluid method. Validations proposed technique are made single particle multiple arbitrarily-shaped sedimentation tests, effect shape illustrated drafting-kissing-tumbling benchmark. • An interaction model used deal with Boundary Method couple DEM LBM. Effect on multiphase flow behavior investigated. Benchmark tests validate accuracy robustness LBM technique.
